Meghan, Secretary and member at large
Sambro & Area Community Association
As Secretary of the Sambro & Area Community Association (SACA), Meghan has the opportunity to contribute directly to an organization dedicated to strengthening, celebrating, and investing in the community we call home.
SACA brings community members together through events and initiatives that celebrate Sambro’s history while creating opportunities for neighbours and families to connect. This includes the annual Sambro Sou’Wester Days, children’s movie nights, community breakfasts, raffles, the Shay & McKay Annual Fishing Derby supporting a local student scholarship, and our involvement with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, which helps provide books to children within our local school catchment.
In her role as Secretary, she helps support the organization and coordination of the association by maintaining records, documenting meetings and decisions, assisting with communication, and working alongside fellow members to help move community initiatives forward. Beyond the administrative responsibilities, she is proud to be an active participant in the planning, organization, and success of the events and projects we undertake.
SACA is also focused on the future of our community, with long-term goals that include creating a full-service community centre and developing a mobility-accessible fishing wharf and picnic area at Grand Lake.
Being part of SACA gives her the opportunity to help preserve what makes our community special while also working toward opportunities that will benefit local residents and future generations.
Mary-Jane & Meghan
The IWK
As REALTORS® with RE/MAX NOVA, Mary-Jane and Meghan are proud to support the IWK and the incredible care it provides to children and families throughout our region.
Through RE/MAX NOVA’s commission contribution program, a portion of the commission from our real estate transactions is donated to the IWK. This gives us the opportunity to make giving back part of the work we do every day. With each home journey we are fortunate enough to be part of can also contribute to supporting families who rely on the IWK.
Our involvement goes beyond our transactions. We also participate in the annual RE/MAX NOVA IWK Classic, which brings REALTORS®, community partners, and supporters together to raise additional funds for the IWK. In 2026, the tournament raised $50,000 in support of the hospital and the children and families it serves.
We are also proud to be part of a brokerage that has committed to raising an additional $100,000 over four years to sponsor and fund a triage room in the new IWK Emergency Department.
For Meghan and Mary-Jane, supporting the IWK aligns closely with what Heart & Home Realty represents. Our business is built around people, families, homes, and community, and we believe our responsibility extends beyond helping people buy and sell real estate. Being able to use our business and our time to contribute to an organization that has such an important impact on families across our region is something we are incredibly proud to be part of.
Meghan, Chair since 2024
School Advisory Council, Sambro Ketch Harbour Elementary
As Chair of my daughter’s School Advisory Council (SAC), I have the opportunity to play an active role in supporting student success and strengthening our school community.
The School Advisory Council brings together parents, school administration, teachers, and community members to provide input and guidance on matters that impact students, the school, and the broader school system.
In my role as Chair, I help lead council meetings, encourage open and productive discussion, and ensure the voices and perspectives of families and our school community are represented. I work collaboratively with the principal, staff, parents, and fellow council members to discuss school priorities, identify opportunities for improvement, and support initiatives that contribute to a positive, inclusive, and successful learning environment.
For me, being part of the SAC is about being actively involved in the community where my daughter is growing and learning, while also advocating for the success and well-being of all students at the school.
Member at large since September 2023, Chair since September 2024.
